Memorial Hospital offers Childbirth Education Classes to help parents prepare for childbirth. This is open to first-time parents and parents who want a refresher course. Memorial Hospital’s experienced nursing staff will:
- Answer your questions and concerns about pregnancy and parenting;
- Teach the mother how to prepare her body for childbirth; and
- Teach parents about the changes the baby will make in their lives.
This class is offered for free to parents delivering at Memorial Hospital and for a nominal fee to those who do not plan to deliver at Memorial Hospital.
Sibling classes are available by appointment for children ages three and older whose parents plan to deliver at Memorial Hospital. The class consists of touring the birthing unit, watching an educational video, and answering questions. Please call Memorial Hospital Scheduling at (785) 263-6660 to schedule a sibling class for your child.
After your baby is born at Memorial Hospital, our nursing staff is available to answer questions or address concerns you have post-delivery. You may also feel free to call us at (785) 263-6668 if you have any problems or questions after returning home.
A lactation consultant is available through the Dickinson County Health Department to discuss any questions the new mother might have about breastfeeding. The consultant’s service can also be used after the new mother and baby leave Memorial Hospital. Please call the health department at (785) 263-4179 for more information about breastfeeding.
